چکیده

Herbivore-induced plant volatiles (HIPVs) play a key role in the interactions between plants and herbivorous insects, as HIPVs can promote or deter insects’ behavior. While aphids are common serious phloem-feeding pests farmland ecosystems, little is known about how use their sensitive olfactory system to detect HIPVs. In this study, antennal transcriptomes of aphid species Megoura crassicauda were sequenced, expression level analyses M. odorant receptors (ORs) carried out. To investigate chemoreception mechanisms that uses HIPVs, we performed vitro functional studies ORs using 11 reported be released by aphid-infested plants. total, 54 candidate chemosensory genes identified, among which 20 ORs. McraOR20 McraOR43 selected for further characterization because homologs quite conserved levels antennae relatively high. The results showed specifically detected cis-jasmone, did its ortholog ApisOR20 from pea Acyrthosiphon pisum, while not respond any HIPV chemicals tested. This study characterized ability homologous OR20 two provides target mediating behaviors.

Candidate Olfaction Genes Identified within the Helicoverpa armigera Antennal Transcriptome

Antennal olfaction is extremely important for insect survival, mediating key behaviors such as host preference, mate choice, and oviposition site selection. Multiple antennal proteins are involved in olfactory signal transduction pathways. Of these, odorant receptors (ORs) and ionotropic receptors (IRs) confer specificity on olfactory sensory neuron responses. In this study, we identified the o...

Blocking sensory inputs to identified antennal glomeruli selectively modifies odorant perception in Drosophila.

Neural coding of sensory input is a major unsolved issue in neuroscience. Current experimental methods rely on neural activity recording or visualization following sensory stimulation. Most of them, however, do not include behavioral correlates on the actual perception by the animal. We present a novel approach to address olfaction and coding in adult Drosophila. Sensory input was selectively b...

Transcriptome Pyrosequencing of the Parasitoid Wasp Cotesia vestalis: Genes Involved in the Antennal Odorant-Sensory System

Cotesia vestalis is an endoparasitic wasp that attacks larvae of the diamondback moth (Plutella xylostella), a herbivore of cruciferous plants. Females of C. vestalis use herbivore-induced plant odorants released from plants infested by P. xylostella as a host-searching cue. Transcriptome pyrosequencing was used to identify genes in the antennae of C. vestalis adult females coding for odorant r...

Antennal Transcriptome Analysis of Odorant Reception Genes in the Red Turpentine Beetle (RTB), Dendroctonus valens

BACKGROUND The red turpentine beetle (RTB), Dendroctonus valens LeConte (Coleoptera: Curculionidae, Scolytinae), is a destructive invasive pest of conifers which has become the second most important forest pest nationwide in China. Dendroctonus valens is known to use host odors and aggregation pheromones, as well as non-host volatiles, in host location and mass-attack modulation, and thus anten...
